Friday My Town Shoot-Out: Relaxation

Lena from New Jersey chose our theme this week: Relaxation. I like it! Thanks, Lena.

One of my very favorite ways to relax is in a hot bath with a cup of coffee, a sweet treat, and a great book. If I'm lucky, my daughter will make these bath salts again for me (her science project was "bath bubblers" and they turned out great!).

Every time I leave home, this is the view I have of the Bed & Breakfast across the street. The proprietor has set up two Adirondack chairs looking out at the bay and guests can take their glass of wine out and relax with a view.

While the B&B stays pretty busy, most people who come to Westport to relax stay at the state park. Sites are a very short walk to the beach and it is a popular place!

And what could be more relaxing than fishing? Here my husband and son angle for some perch off of the dock. My brother and I spent a lot of time fishing off the docks when we were little. The best bait? Red licorice, I kid you not!

Here is a shot of the marina by night. The water is so calm and the sky so pretty that it is a very relaxing sight. Some of the charter boats are getting ready to take off on a little search for the chicken of the sea. It's tuna season and a lot of people seek relaxation on a charter trip. That would be action filled relaxation!

Here's a spot that I think is a little piece of heaven. I sometimes walk from my house and take a book or my camera. At the end of the boardwalk are two benches that are perfect for relaxing with your book, soaking up the sun, or just gazing out over the beach. I took the second picture with a slower shutter speed and asked my daughter to get up and walk away after I pushed the shutter button. The best part about this spot is that not many people know about it so I rarely encounter other people.

Finally, my favorite place in town, the supplier of the ultimate relaxation tools: the library. I love the way this place looks at night when it is lit up.

Thank you for visiting my town through my lens.

Loved the bath salts ..that was very clever. My daughter made me homemade goat milk soap for Christmas last year.

That shot of the path down to the water is amazing.

Gosh, that photo where it looks like a ghost sitting on the bench is amazing! Loved all your photos, the lake, father and son fishing, the marina by night, could just go on and on. Well done, indeed!

Thank you for all of your kind comments. I love my town so this is a lot of fun!

Sarah Lulu - what is better than a present made by a precious daughter?

Pauline - my kids love to have their "ghost" picture taken.

Your ghostly photo is fascinating - and sitting by the sea has to be the most relaxing thing in the world.

You are lucky to have a daughter to pamper you. Just this week, a friend told me to have a long hot bath with Epsom salt to recover from my cold. I might just do that.

A good massage therapist will ask you how hard you like to be rubbed or kneaded. You can tell her/him if it is too painful. Once you feel the pain is intolerable, you will not enjoy and be relaxed.

I wrote a comment to another blogger about fishing, I should do a post on it. Do you join them sometimes?

You did a nice job varying the subjects. The blk/wht of your family is a keeper to put on the wall! Also, the ghostly photo is a credit to you for experimenting. Those types of images are difficult but fun to look at.

Loved the shot of your daughter on the bench, and can you share the formula for the bath fizzies?

Ann - Epsom salts in the bath do wonders - try it!

Unfortunately, I am not seeing my massage therapist for relaxation. I have pain issues and she has to dig deep! She has helped me even though it hurts :(

I love to fish but don't take the time to do it anymore. We had a charter fishing business in our family for 40 years. My dad is still involved with fisheries. I married a man that is obsessed with sports, not sportsfishing, so we don't go often!

J-9, Jen and anyone else interested...I will dig out the recipe for the bath salts and post it on this blog sometime this week. It is really simple. The ingredients I can think of off the top of my head are: olive oil, witch hazel, epsom salts, citric acid, food coloring, essential oil of your favorite flavor, and baking soda. My daughter is excited to share it with you and will hold me to posting it!

The night shot of the Marina was great! I often wonder why our libraries close so early. So much relaxing could be done there in the evening.

Looking at the picture of the bath fizzies just made me realize that the most amazing thing to do after work today is going to be a hot bubble bath and a good book. Thanks for the inspiration :)
